Nominations for Elder Board

As you may be aware, new bylaws were approved at the recent annual meeting that establish a governing board system for the District.  In these new bylaws the Ministries Council is replaced by an Elder Board of four voting members.  The General Assembly appointed the Ministries Council as a nominating committee to select the persons who will comprise the new Elder Board.

The Ministries Council is requesting that District members send us the names of person they would like to suggest for consideration for the Elder Board.  As you consider possibilities, please understand that the new Elder Board is not a management board as the CDP District has historically been accustomed to.  Rather, this is a governing board whose main assignment is to see that the mission of the District (growing healthy churches that are accomplishing the Great Commission) is fulfilled.  The Elder Board is responsible for hiring the Regional Pastor & Overseer and monitoring consistency with the Policies & Procedures as they (Elder Board) provide oversight to ensure that the mission is accomplished.  Attached is a document that identifies the qualifications we are looking for in Elder Board members.  Please review it.

If you would like to nominate someone for the Elder Board, please email that person’s name and contact information to me at doug@healthygrowingchurches.com.  The deadline for receiving nominations is Monday, October 17.

General Assembly Meeting Summary

Some significant decisions were made at the CDP General Assembly, September 24, 2011. This is a summary of those actions.

Healthy Growing Churches:
A proposal submitted by healthy growing churches was approved. HGC will begin transitioning into their new role immediately.  The proposal summary is on the district website: http://churchofgodcdp.org/downloads/2011-fall-general-assembly/

Restructuring Bylaws and operating procedures:
The approval of the Healthy Growing Churches proposal required changes to our bylaws and operating procedures. A copy of the approved changes is available for download from the district website.  Changes to the bylaws will become effective January 1, 2012.  One change was that the existing Ministries Council will be the first nominating committee for the new Elders Board.

New credentials committee:
Two credentials committee members were ratified: Rev. Wayne Harting and Rev. Daryl Reid

David Harness is the chairperson of the Credentials Committee until his term expires on 12/31/2011.  At that time Doug Ellis, of the Orchard Church, will become the chairperson of the Credentials Committee.

Scott Grogg’s Ordination:
Scott Grogg, Pastor of Middle River Church of God, was presented for ordination and his ordination was approved.

Pastor Support:
Pastor Farid de Jesus Ramires’ (one of our Hispanic pastors from Iglesia de Dios Jesus El Buen Pastor (Jesus Good Shepherd Church of God, Rockville, MD) primary support is as a carpenter. He severely injured his hand and an offering was taken at the meeting, plus the CDP paid three months of his rent. If you would like to provide additional support him, send a check (designating that it is for “Pastor Ramires support”) to our treasurer:

CDP Missions Trips

Bob Washington has done an excellent job coordinating the CDP mission trip for the last several years.  This has made a significant impact on those in the host countries, those on the work teams, and the district as a whole. It has allowed many of the district churches to participate in missions in a way that would not easily be available to them otherwise.

Bob has told me he would not be able to coordinate the trip this next year. I know that several congregations either have done their own trips, or are planning one in the future. I applaud this work and encourage it. I am sending this email to the people I am aware of that fit this situation. If you are aware of others that fit this, feel free to forward this email to them.

The CDP district has funds that can support those going on work trips that are district events. In addition the Ministry Council has voted to use this year’s Thanksgiving Offering to replenish that fund. If one, or more, of you would be willing to coordinate a trip next year, please let me know. We will be introducing the Thanksgiving Offering at the next General Assembly meeting on Sep 24.

It would help if we could have some details regarding future trips. I would like to initiate a dialogue to that effect. Please keep me informed.

Again I want to thank Bob for his work in this very successful work.  He has indicated that he would be willing to provide guidance to anyone taking over.
